Hi all,
I use the OJ9020 in my network (connected "wired).
I use MacOS Ventura and it works fine.
My wife uses MacOS Monterey, and more often than not the printer does not print at all or with a delay of several 10s of minutes.
In the eventlog, I find quite frequently 17.03.90. I was not able to find what that means.
Does anyone have an idea (either for the event code or the problem itself?)
Of coures, printer firmware is up to date, is has been restarted numerous times, and also de-installed and re-installed on my wife's computer....

I found out about the error code: It seems like:
17 - something with the cartridges
03 - Magenta
90 - most likely something between the notification and the warning about soon-to-be-empty cartridges
But the original problem of printing delayed or not at all still holds.

@unknownstuntman, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
You're correct that EventCode 17.03.90 on the HP OfficeJet Pro 9022e typically refers to a cartridge-related message—in this case, a Magenta ink low or nearing depletion. However, this should not prevent or significantly delay printing unless:
- The cartridge is completely empty or not recognized.
- The printer firmware or driver is reacting incorrectly to the low ink status.
- There is a communication or spooling issue specific to macOS Monterey.
Since your wife's Mac (on Monterey) experiences delays or fails to print while your Ventura Mac works fine, this points to a driver or compatibility issue rather than a hardware or network problem.
Suggestions to Resolve the Delayed Printing on macOS Monterey:
Use AirPrint Instead of HP Driver:
- Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Remove the printer.
- Re-add it using AirPrint (default macOS driver), not the HP Smart driver.
Reset the Printing System on Monterey:
- Go to Printers & Scanners.
- Right-click (or Ctrl-click) on the printer list and choose "Reset printing system".
- Then reinstall the printer and select AirPrint.
Disable IPv6 on the Printer:
- Log into the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) via IP address in a browser.
- Go to Network Settings > Advanced > IPv6.
- Disable it and save.
- Some macOS versions hang or delay printing when IPv6 is partially enabled.
Set a Static IP for the Printer:
- Ensure the printer IP doesn’t change over time, which can cause discovery issues.
- Assign a static IP from the printer’s control panel or from your router.
Update HP Software (if using HP Smart):
- While you mention firmware is up-to-date, check if the HP Smart app on your wife’s Mac is updated.
- Alternatively, uninstall HP Smart and use system printing via AirPrint instead.
Check Print Queue Behavior:
- On the Monterey Mac, when the print job is delayed, open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > Open Print Queue.
- Check if the job is stuck on “Waiting” or “Paused” — this may indicate communication or permission issues.
Try USB as a Diagnostic Test:
- Temporarily connect the printer via USB to your wife's Mac to isolate if the issue is network-related.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
