Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One printer aprox 2 years old (480 pages total printed) will only output greyscale. It doesnt matter if I print from different sources, USB, test pages or even copying from the unit itself. This has only happened I guess in the last 2 months as its a spare machine that is not used all the time. Inks are genuine and aprox 1000 pages left each.

Hi! @Ted234

Have you tried checking with a different ink cartridge?

Are you using HP genuine ink cartridges?

Replace low, empty or faulty ink cartridges on the printer.

Clean the printhead

The printhead could be clogged, and you might need to clean the printhead several times to restore print quality. Use an automated tool from the printer control panel to clean the printhead.

   CAUTION:

Never turn off the printer when ink cartridges are not installed. To avoid issues that require cleaning the printhead or that can damage the ink system, always replace ink cartridges as soon as possible, and always turn off the printer using the Power button.

  1. On the printer control panel, swipe down to open the Dashboard, and then touch the Setup icon .

  2. Swipe up on the display, and then touch Printer Maintenance.

  3. Touch Clean Printhead, and then touch Continue.

    A test page prints.

  4. Examine the test page.

    • If the print quality is unacceptable, touch Clean Again to continue the next level of cleaning. Repeat these steps for the third cleaning stage, if necessary.

      NOTE:

If the printhead is badly clogged, it might require another cleaning cycle. If so, wait 30 minutes before you perform all three levels of cleaning again.

    • If the print quality is acceptable, touch Done.

Try to print.

A4Apollo, thank you for your advice

OK

Genuine cartridges, first set mind you and only just out of warranty

Not low, had over 600 to 800 odd pages left on all

Printhead cleaned, and cleaned and cleaned

Aligned

Removed cartridges and appears there is a leak of some sort, black ink on everything.

Tells me that there is a problem with the supply system, no kidding

Seems to be a theme going here with HP, this A3 printer was to replace a HP Wide format

printer (obviously less size than before) that had an ink leak that irreversibly damaged

a circuit board rendering the unit unfinancially viable for repair.

So anyway problem solved, threw the HP junk in the bin and bought a Brother printer.

At least it was only cheap this time, dont think i'll bother with HP printers aghain.
