OfficeJet Pro 7740 printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have tried every single fix for this problem and no change. My printer is detected as offline even though it is on and the Wireless icon is lit. I have tried HP patches, HP doctor software, resetting router, restarting computer, resetting wireless setup on printer, giving the printer a static IP address, - none of this works and I have spent countless hours on this. I have a Mac laptop, HP laptop, both with latest operating systems, both cannot connect to printer. The only way the printer is discoverable is if I manually restart the printer. Every single day. What’s the issue? What’s the solution?

@msms22, Welcome to HP Support Community!

Download a special version of HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  1. Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  2. Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.

  3. Once HP Print and Scan Doctor opens, click Start, and then select your printer.

    • If your printer is not in the list, turn it off and on and then click Retry.

    • If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  4. If a screen prompts you to turn on printer updates, click Yes.

  5. If a screen prompts you to make your printer the default printer, click Yes.

  6. Try to print.

If the issue persists, try adding a TCP/IP port.

  1. Print a Network Configuration Report from the Printer Settings or Wireless menu.

  2. Right-click your printer, select Printer Properties, click the Ports tab and then click Add Port.

  3. Select Standard TCP/IP Port, and then click New Port.

  4. Follow the instructions to add a new port using the information listed on the Network Configuration Report.

  5. Try printing.

Keep me posted for further assistance.

Assign manual IP to the printer-

The steps on how to set a manual IP address can be found here.

For the DNS servers please use 8.8.8.8 for the Manual Preferred DNS Server and 8.8.4.4 for the Alternate DNS server. These are Google’s public DNS servers

Also, Turn off IPV6 from the printer's front panel menu:

  1. Setup Menu
  2. Network Setup
  3. Advanced Settings
  4. IPV6, select Off.
  5. Reboot the router and printer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
