@JoeJScarpino,

Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support community!

Let's try these steps:

Step 1: Update the printer firmware

  • Refer to this link to update the printer firmware.

Step 3: Assign a manual IP address

From the printer control panel, from the Home screen, select Setup and then press OK.

Select Printer Reports, and then press OK. Select Network Configuration Page, and then press OK.

  • From the printer control panel, from the Home screen, select Network, and then press OK.
  • Select Ethernet Settings or Wireless Settings, and then press OK.
  • Select Advanced Settings, and then press OK .
  • Select IP Settings (selected by default), and then press OK .
  • If a warning message that indicates changing the IP address removes the printer from the network appears, press OK to continue.
  • Automatic is selected by default. To change the settings manually, select Manual, and then press OK.
  • Enter the appropriate information for the following settings:
    • IP Address (obtained from network configuration page)
    • Subnet Mask (obtained from network configuration page)
    • Default Gateway (obtained from the network configuration page
    • DNS Address (Use 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4)
    • To enter the information of a setting, select the desired setting, and then press OK.
    • After entering your changes, select Apply by pressing (the Selection).
    • Press OK.

this printer (both of them) have the most current firmware, and are used on a wirless network with static IP's assigned to each of them.  The only caveat I can determine is sometimes they may be not getting a good wirelss signal for a period of time. Not sure why that would cause them to shutdown though.  We prefer them not to tmie out at all.

@JoeJScarpino,

You are correct. If the printer is too far from the router sometimes the signal may drop and you may face issues.

Also, try disabling the IPv6 feature on the printer if the printer is on a wireless network.

  • From the printer control panel, from the Home screen, select Network, and then press OK.
  • Select Ethernet Settings or Wireless Settings, and then press OK.
  • Select Advanced Settings, and then press OK.
  • Select IPv6 and disable it.

Let me know what happens.
