I had an OfficeJet Pro 8715 (box store version of OfficeJet Pro 8710) for about three years. It started randomly reporting the yellow ink cartridge as empty when it was not. Then it would report the yellow cartridge not installed properly. Finally, I bought a new OfficeJet Pro 8710 to replace the obviously broken printer. I installed the new printer a couple of weeks ago and transferred my InstantInk account to it. The printer worked well until the startup inks got low. Tonight the new printer reported the yellow ink empty. I replaced it with a new InstantInk yellow cartridge that had been sent to me recently. The printer gives alternating messages such as "remove and reinstall the yellow cartrigde" and "cartridge can only be used in printer that initially installed it" and "used HP InstantInk". What is the problem with the 8710 printers and the yellow InstantInk?

Hi @AngryBobby
Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.
Make sure you have tried the steps mentioned in this document to resolve this issue with the yellow ink cartridge.
If you are getting the same error for 2 different yellow ink cartridges, the issue could be with the printhead of the printer.
If the error persists after performing the troubleshooting steps from the attached document, please send us a private message with your Instant Ink account details or you may also respond to the private message I've sent out and I'll help you out, accordingly. Check next to your profile name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.
