Officejet 4630

My Officejet 4630 is 6 months old. I purchased it when my previous HP printer (which was over 2 years old) stopped printing black ink. Now this printer is doing the same thing. I have searched the forums and internet for a solution, nothing works.

I just changed the black ink cartridge today because it ran out. I put in a geniune, brand new, HP black ink cartridge. The alignment page printed and the black ink was very spotty/faded. I scanned the alignment pagae and it "failed". Printed a new alignment page, no black ink at all on this one. So obviously, the scan of that failed as well. I have gone through so many pages of printer reports, print quality, printer alignment pages, it is RIDICULOUS. I took the ink cartridge out and put it back in. Turned the printer off, turned it back on. NOTHING WORKS. This printer, which I paid good money for, is turning out to be useless!!

I am NOT going to "send this in for service" which seems to be the only solution I have found that I have not yet tried. If there is no fix for this issue that I can do on my own then this printer is crap and I don't want it. And if that really is the case, I will never buy an HP product again as this is the SECOND time I've had this issue. What an unreliable product and brand.

If anyone has a fix for this, I'd appreciate the input.

I have exhausted the alignment and clean printhead options with no fix. However, I did find a page on HP (somewhat hidden and I cannot find it again) that said to take the black cartridge out and lay it face up overnight. I did that last night, put it back in this morning and boom, printing black ink again!

I had this problem a year or so ago with a much old printer.  Go to HP solutions center..go to HELP..then tools..printer toolbox and clean printheads.  Also uses a lot of ink.  That worked for me.  Good luck.
