Officejet 4652. Was working fine until a windows 10 update about 8 or 9 months ago. Will not print in color. When accessing printer properties, automatically defaults to monochrome setting, and will not allow it to be changed to color. Also no automatic duplexing. Properties says automatic duplexer is not installed.
I have completely uninstalled the printer, drivers and all associated software several times, reinstalled the latest drivers directly from HP's website and from downloaded driver pack on my computer. When reinstalled, it will work for a day or two, then go back to the above symptoms. It makes the printer pretty much unusable, and it seems that HP has abandoned it as the latest driver is dated April, 2017.
I have also reinstalled Windows on my computer, with no change. It does the same thing from my laptop running win 10 as well
Any insight would be appreciated. Am extremely dissapointed with HP, and if I have to replace this printer due to this, it wont be with an HP.

Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I reviewed your post and I understand that you are not getting the option to print color in the printer software and other apps.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
I recommend you root uninstall the printer and then reinstall and check if it helps.
Here is how it is done.
1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'
6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
13.) Restart the PC
Then add the printer using the printer IP address.
1. Select “Start” and type “printers” in the search box.
2. Choose “Printers & scanners“.
3. Select “Add a printer or scanner“.
4. Wait for the “The printer that I want isn’t listed” option to appear, then select it.
5. Select “Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname” , then select “Next“.
6. Select “TCP/IP Device” in the “Device type” list.
7. Type the hostname or the IP address of the printer. Select “Next“. To find the IP address of the printer, touch the Wi-Fi icon on the printer's control panel.
8. Windows should find the printer if the printer is on and configured correctly. You may have to specify more information. If prompted, Select the type of network adapter installed in the printer in the “Device Type” drop-down list. You can also click “Custom” to specify custom settings for the network printer. Select “Next“
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Thanks for your reply. I have tried the steps you listed numerous times in the past, but tried them again exactly as you wrote. Once I had the printer reinstalled, I printed one color picture successfully. I immediately tried printing the same picture a second time, and the printer has reverted back to grayscale and refuses to change back to color mode when I access the advanced tab of the preferences page. It still forces it back to monochrome mode. It also still has the automatic duplexer listed as "not installed". I print numerous multiple page color documents and this is a must have feature for me. So just to recap, no matter what I try I still have no color printing and no automatic duplexer.

I recommend you create a new user account on the computer follow the steps in the below article and then install the printer and check.

Tried your suggestion with the same results. On the new account, printer prints fine one time then reverts back to monochrome. If you try to change it back to color, when you click "OK" it changes it back to monochrome. It does display a message I haven't seen before. directly above the color / monochrome / grayscale option box it says " setting changed to monochrome due to a conflict with another printer setting".
The thing is, it doesn't say what setting, and I haven't done or changed anything except attempt to print the exact same picture in exactly the same way as the first.

Appreciate you trying the steps. I'd suggest you Contact HP in your region regarding this issue.
Thanks!
