The printer, Officejet 5740, is not recognizing the black or the color cartridges which came with the printer. The printer gives the error “Incompatable Cartridges.” The cartridges are #62.

Yes, the protective tape was carefully removed. None of it is left. Yes, the copper connectors are clean. Yes, I tried reinstalling the cartridges several times. And yes, I restarted the printer servers times.

Please advise. Thank you.

Welcome to the HP Forums. I would be happy to help you with your HP Officejet 5740 Printer. I understand that you are are getting incompatible ink cartridges error and you have already done some preliminary troubleshooting.

However, I will need a few details to provide an accurate solution,

  • Did you try with a different ink cartridge and check if that is working?

Meanwhile:

Reset the printer

  1. Press the Power button () to turn on the product.

  2. With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.

  3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

  4. Wait at least 15 seconds.

  5. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

  6. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.

  7. If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button () to turn it on.

Click here and follow the steps mentioned in this HP document for more assistance.

If the issue persists,

Update the HP Firmware.
