Print dialog box reports “filter failed” message or “Ready to print” message stalled out/no activity when trying to print via Wireless or USB. A test report from the printer dialog box prints ok.

I read all the information in all the posts on this previous thread and tried everything listed without success:
- Turning printer off/on

- Re-added printer

- "Reset Printing System" in System Prefs, restarted Mac, re-added printer

- re-downloaded, re-installed printer driver HPPrinterDrivers5.1 from hp.com - HP Easy Start.app

- Installed HP Firmware Updater (which lists 2 devices HPD7361WE, and Officejet6700) for Officejet 6700

 

Above referenced thread is five pages of comments from users who can't print and advice from HP staff and not one success story. The message about the text “filter failed” was never even addressed. What filter? Is there anything new to try or is throwing out this expensive printer and all the expensive ink the only option left to HP customers?

Did HP get annoyed with all the complaints and simply stopped support for this critical failure?

 

I'm re-posting to see if anything has changed.

 

Here are msgs from Print Dialog box for single page printing attempts via various apps:

- Apple TextEdit - “Printing - Filter failed”

- Chrome  - “Ready to Print”  Job stops/hung up/doesn’t print

- MS Word - “Ready to print - 1 page” Job stops/hung up/doesn’t print

- Adobe Acrobat - “Ready to Print”  Job stops/hung up/doesn’t print

Updating to Catalina or the new OS Big Sur will not work for my installed apps atm.

Also, I'm able to Print a Self Test Page via the internet by clicking Show Printer Webpage in the Print Dialog box/Settings

And I just signed up for HP Smart and successfully printed an emailed file.
