Hi @hammeritered,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 6960 printer's carriage is stuck on the left-hand side and you've confirmed there are no paper jams,
here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:
- Turn off the Printer: Switch off the printer and unplug it from the power source. This will reset the printer and clear any temporary issues.
- Manually Move the Carriage: Check if you can manually move the carriage to the right-hand side. Sometimes, gently moving it can help reset its position.
- Check for Obstructions: Even if there are no visible paper jams, check thoroughly inside the printer for any small pieces of paper or other debris that might be obstructing the carriage path.
- Restart the Printer: After a few minutes, plug the printer back in and turn it on. See if the carriage returns to its normal position during the startup process.
- Reset the Printer: Sometimes, a reset can help. On your printer's control panel, find the reset option in the settings or refer to the printer's manual for instructions on how to perform a reset.
- Check for Firmware Updates: Ensure your printer has the latest firmware installed. Sometimes, updating the firmware can resolve issues related to carriage movement. Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Inspect the Carriage Belt: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, there might be a problem with the carriage belt or its mechanism. Inspect it carefully for any signs of wear or damage.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
