I've owned an HP Officejet 8720 for about a year. All of a sudden today it will not read any USB Flash drive I insert into the printer. I've shut down and restarted the printer several times, but still receive an error message that the printer can not read the USB drive. Any suggestions?

Welcome to HP support community.
The printer does not support encrypted USB flash drives or USB Flash drives using the NTFS file system.
Try using a different USB flash drive or format the flash drive and check if that works.
Meanwhile:
Perform a power reset
- Turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
- Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
- Wait at least 30 seconds.
- Plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector and printer.
- Turn on the printer.
Update the printer firmware

I hope that helps.
