I had this problem with my C8180 and someone posed a special Menu process which I followed and it fixed the problem. Now a friend of mine has the same error with his Officejet Pro 8600 Plus.
Is there a similar Special Menu process for this printer?

Hi @DJ-fix,
Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you.
I understand that you are getting ink system failure error message on your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer.
This issue could occur if the nozzles of the printhead are clogged or the printhead is defective.
Let's go through a few steps to troubleshoot this issue.
And here's the step by step guide for you in the link: 'Ink System Failure' Error
Let me know how this works.
You have a good day ahead.

I strongly believe there was a forced update by HP that is causing this recently. I have Office jet pro 8600 for years and no problem, and a few weeks ago, I go the "ink system failure" error. I believed it to be true because the printer was a few years old. So I ordered a refurbished printer - same Officejet pro 8600 and it printed for a day or so and then it GOT THE SAME ERROR MESSAGE. This makes me pretty sure HP did some sort of hidden forced update. I've been researching this an apparently HP did a previous forced update and caused quite a stir and had to release some firmware to update. Unfortunately that fix is not for the 8600. I think as more people start researching, they will find that something happened in the past few weeks.
HP - please let us know what happened. You have no right to do hidden forced updates on a printer that we own! Please let us know how to fix this error.
