I changed all the cartridges and got this message "there is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn printer off, then on. If problem persists, contact HP". I did the first part of that suggestion, but trying to talk to someone at HP was easier said than done. I turned the printer off and pulled the plug and tried again in the morning...this time I got this message "one or more cartridges appear to be damaged", They were NEW cartridges. I realize this printer is out of warranty, so I bought a new printer, HP Smart Tank Plus 651. I'm not liking the new printer, it does print 2 sided, but you have to take each sheet of paper and turn it and put it back in the printer, I print work sheets which are 2 sided, there's no way I can stand there and take each one out and put it back in to print the back...so the question is...do I spend another $30 for a cyan cartridge which I realized was leaking, and try again, or after already losing $128 on the new cartridges do I give it up and figure out how to live with the new printer?
Thanks for any opinions!!!

Hi @caconiam,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Verify Cartridge Authenticity: Ensure that you are using genuine HP ink cartridges. Non-HP cartridges can sometimes cause issues with leakage or incompatibility. Check the packaging and see if the cartridges were sourced from a reliable supplier.
Inspect the Cartridges:
- Leaking: Carefully remove the leaking cartridge and inspect it for any damage or incorrect installation.
- Protective Tape: Ensure that all protective tapes or seals have been removed from the new cartridges.
- Contacts: Clean the contact points of the cartridges and the contacts inside the printer with a lint-free cloth.
Reinstallation:
- Reinstall the Cartridges: After inspecting and cleaning, reinstall the cartridges ensuring they are seated properly.
- Secure Fit: Make sure the cartridges snap firmly into place.
Check for Printer Hardware Issues:
- Make sure there is no physical obstruction or visible damage in the cartridge slot within the printer.
- Use a flashlight to examine if anything is blocking the printing mechanism.
Printer Reset:
- Hard Reset: Turn off the printer, disconnect the power cord, wait for a minute, and then reconnect and turn it on.
- Software Reset: Check for firmware updates on the HP Support site that might resolve the ink system errors.
Run Printer Diagnostics:
- Use the printer’s control panel or software application to run a diagnostic check if available. This might highlight specific issues with the printer.
I hope this helps.
