This old printer is running out of ink, but when I replaced the ink cartridges (I've tried 950, 951, 950XL, 951XL) every cartridge gets the same message - incompatible.  The printer driver is updated and I'm running off a Mac (HP Officejet Pro 8600 2.0).  These cartridges are exactly the same as the old ones I'm replacing.  They are HP cartridges.  I found some hints on the community page, but the links were out of date, so that lead me nowhere.  I tried unplugging the printer from the rear of the printer, waiting, and then plugging that back in.  No change.  I've turned the printer off and then back on.  I'm running out of ideas.  The printer is correctly set to United States.  When I put the old nearly empty cartridges back in, it works just fine, but that ink won't last forever.

@shohle, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Are the printer and the ink cartridges bought in the US?

Check if you see a Z10 or Z20 mentioned on the old and new set of ink cartridges.

Make sure you have tried the steps mentioned in this document - HP Printer Does not Print and Error Indicates Faulty Ink Cartridge

Insert one ink cartridge at a time to check if the error persists for all 4 ink cartridges.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
