Hello,
I'm considering to buy a printer hp officejet 3836, but I'd like to know if this printer can print with black ink and without any color cartridge in. I'd like to use it to print in black only and I would not want to have to buy color cartridge when it runs out of ink.

Yes, the printer supports the single-cartridge mode and can print with only black ink in it. The print quality may vary when the printer uses only one ink cartridge.
Also, refer to the document Printer Specifications for HP OfficeJet 3830, DeskJet 3830, 5730 All-in-One Printers for more details on the printer.
