Somehow, I managed to pop out the output tray extender unit. The whole thing, not just the little extender itself. For the life of me, I can not figure out how to get it back in place. Anybody got any ideas?

Welcome to HP support community.
Output tray extender is not a removable part.
If it has come out, then it seems to be a hardware issue.
I request you to talk to HP support.
They might have multiple options to help you with this.
1) Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/
2) Click on "Continue as guest".
3) Enter the serial of your device.
4) Select the country from the drop-down.
5) Click on "Show Options".
Fill the web-form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

Thanks Sandy.
I suspect you thought I was talking about the little shelf that pulls out of the output tray extender. Nope. I was asking about the whole assembly that little shelf slides in and out of. Above the paper supply tray.
However, I fixed it! While fiddling around with it, trying to figure out how it fit, it popped back into place.
I had been trying to get it to fit onto the paper supply tray. But it doesn't go there. It snaps into the body of the MFD, above the paper supply tray.
Thanks for the input anyway.
