HP OfficeJet 5255 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Both my HP laptop and HP OfficeJet 5255 printer are connected to my home wi-fi network. Although I can readily print Word documents from my laptop files, I get a "Printing Failed" message whenever I try to print out one of the PDF files on my computer. This is a recent occurrence, starting only within the last week or so. I have removed and reinstalled the printer software and ensured that both the laptop and printer are connected to my network, but the problem persists. Any suggestions as to why this is happening and how I can fix it?

Hi @sancho4all,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're encountering an issue specifically with printing PDF files on your HP OfficeJet 5255 All-in-One Printer. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the problem:

  • Update Printer Drivers: Ensure that you have the latest drivers for your printer installed. You can download them from the HP website or use the HP Smart app to check for updates.
  • Update PDF Reader: Make sure that your PDF reader (e.g., Adobe Acrobat Reader) is up to date. Sometimes, compatibility issues between the printer and the PDF reader can cause printing problems.
  • Check Print Settings: Open the PDF file, go to the print dialog, and make sure that the correct printer is selected. Also, check the print settings for any unusual options that might be affecting the print job.
  • Print as Image: In Adobe Acrobat Reader, go to File > Print, then click on Advanced and select Print as Image. This can sometimes help bypass issues related to how the PDF is rendered.
  • Clear Print Queue: Sometimes, the print queue can become jammed. Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click your printer, and select See what's printing. Cancel any stuck print jobs and try printing your PDF again.
  • Reinstall PDF Reader: If updating doesn't help, try uninstalling and reinstalling your PDF reader.
  • Use HP Print and Scan Doctor: Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from the HP website. This tool can help diagnose and fix common printing issues. HP Print and Scan Doctor
  • Try Another PDF File: Sometimes, the issue might be with a specific PDF file. Try printing a different PDF to see if the problem persists.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
