Hello,
I am having a problem priting pdf documents. I get the message "Printing - ERROR:/.SFCompactDisplay-Heavy" every time, but then sometimes the printer just goes ahead and prints anyway (usually if only one page). Other times, it freezes and I have to do a hard reset. At times, even the hard reset doesn't work, and the printer screen just keeps blinking on and off. I then do a hard reset two or three times.
If this happened, say, once a month, it would be irritating, but not a deal breaker. At this point, it happens every time I print a pdf that is more than one page, and sometimes even if it's only one page. I was going to buy a new printer (not HP), but I decided to give this one another chance if I can resolve this issue.
Firmware is up to date.
Thank you

Thank you for joining HP Forums.
This is a great place to get support, find answers to your technical queries.
I understand that you are facing issue while printing PDF, need not worry I'll be glad t assist you.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Are you facing this issue after n update?
How long are you facing this issue?
Are you facing any issue while printing from other applications?
Remove multiple printers from the printer list
Check for multiple devices in the Printers list, and then remove any extra entries other than one in idle status.
-
Search the Mac for Print, and then click Print & Fax, Print & Scan, or Printers & Scanners in the list of results.
-
Find the printer names that match your printer from the list of devices.
Figure : Printers and Scanner window with multiple names of a printer in the list
-
If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button
at the bottom of the list. Leave one 'idle' printer in the list that matches your printer if available and use this printer as the Default printer.
Delete the existing print queue and add the printer
Remove the printer queue from the list of printers, and then add it again. Doing so creates a new printing session.
-
Make sure your Mac is connected to the Internet.
-
In the Printers list, click your HP printer, and then click the Minus button
to delete it.
-
Click the Add button
.
-
Find and select the name of your printer from the Printer list, and then click Add to add your printer. Do not select an HP Fax driver.
note:
If your printer does not display in the list, make sure the printer is connected, turned on, has power, and is ready to print.

-
Click Print Using or Use.
-
Select the name of your printer (if available) or AirPrint.

Your new printer queue displays in the Printers list in an Idle status

Try printing again.

Hi,
This may have helped. I had an old printer on the list and I took it off. For some reason, there were also two listings for my current printer model, so I kept the one that had been used most recently. I've now printed two pdfs without a problem.
If things continue well, I will give you kudos. If not, I will be back with questions!
Thanks for your help, Raj.

Unfortunately, the success was short lived. It stopped working properly again shortly after this.
I've now bought a new Canon printer. I've had several problems with HP printers and am hoping for better luck with this one.
