My inkjet pro 6960 printer carriage is stuck on right side. Will not slide freely. If I spin the carriage gears on left side it will eventually free up the carriage. But as soon as I turn the printer back on it jams again on right side and gives me a "paper jam" error. There is no paper jam. The carriage is jammed itself on right side.

Thanks for visiting the HP community. A very good day to you! I read the post regarding issues with carriage stalls. .I will be delighted to assist you here.
You’ve done an excellent job of diagnosing the issue from your end. Superb effort and spectacular research were done as well. Kudos to you on that score. I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you. 🙂
For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:
- Did this happen after a power outage or surge?
For now, try these steps:
- It looks like a carriage jam with the printer. Perform all the relevant steps from this link:http://hp.care/2EAKSmB (HP OfficeJet Pro 6900 Printers - 'Carriage Jam' Error)

- If it continues, then check for paper jams by performing all the relevant steps from this linkhttp://hp.care/2Dv70yo ( HP OfficeJet Pro 6900 Printers - A 'Paper Jam' Error Displays )

If it persists, please contact HP phone support to replace the printer as it is faulty. I am being honest about it by keeping your best interest in mind without beating around the bush.

I have the same problem. With the power off, I am able to free up the print carriage and move it from right to left by manually turning the gear on the left as the OP mentioned. Once I turn the power back on, the carriage becomes stuck on the right hand side during the start-up process.
I have gone through the troubleshooting steps for paper jam and carriage jam errors. Is there anything else I can try without sending the unit in for servicing? It is out of warranty.

I will try and give some ideas.I would try and clean the ink cleaning tray from ink. This could be that the ink tray is sticky from all the ink and does not move as to clean the cartridges.Hope this will help.
