Greetings--

I have an OfficeJet Pro 8610, which I have thoroughly enjoyed over the years.  Even though I have had an issue here and there, nothing could not be dealt with, and overall, this printer is great !!

As of today, and without any forewarning, the printing is really bad.  When I print a document, there are lines in any of the pictures; the printing is not crisp anymore, appears light, and looks like the top and/or bottoms of the numbers and letters are lighter than the other part of the numbers or letters.  {In the enclosed picture, you may have to zoom in to see what I am talking about.  Also, in the heading of the picture, notice that the underline appears as if it is echoing the letters like a dashed underline.

I have cleaned the heads.  I have aligned the heads.  I have calibrated the heads.  And I have even replaced two of the four

cartridges.

Still prints unusually......

Can anyone help me?  Why is this doing this?  I am totally baffled.

Thank you !!

Hi! @Wishboy14, Welcome to the HP Support Community, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

Are you using HP genuine ink cartridges?

Does the issue persist when you make a copy from the printer?

Have you tried printing from a different application? Does the issue persist?

Have you tried checking with a different ink cartridge?

Try replacing low, empty or faulty ink cartridges on the printer.

Try printing using a different brand of paper.

Try the steps recommended below.

In the software application you are trying to print from, click File, and then click Print.
The Print window opens.
Open the Properties dialog box.
Depending on the software application, the button might be Properties, Options, Printer Setup, Printer, or Preferences.
Depending on your print job, you might consider modifying the following settings:
Print Quality: If you are dissatisfied with the quality of your printouts, increase the print quality. Select best from the list.
After selecting the print settings, click OK to apply the settings, and then click Print.

Align the printhead

Use an automated tool to align the printhead.

  1. Load plain white paper into the tray.

  2. On the printer control panel, swipe the display to scroll to Setup, and then touch the Setup icon (). The Setup menu displays.

  3. Swipe the display to scroll to Tools, and then touch Tools.

  4. Touch Align Printhead.

  5. After the printer prints the alignment page, touch OK, and then recycle or discard the alignment page.

  6. Print another Print Quality Diagnostic Page to see if the issue is resolved.

Calibrate the linefeed

Use an automated tool to calibrate the linefeed.

  1. On the printer control panel, swipe the display to scroll to Setup, and then touch the Setup icon (). The Setup menu displays.

  2. Swipe the display to scroll to Tools, and then touch Tools.

  3. Touch Calibrate Linefeed.

  4. After the printer prints a test page, touch OK, and then recycle or discard the test page.

  5. Print another Print Quality Diagnostic Page to see if the issue is resolved.

Are you using HP genuine ink cartridges?  Yes

Does the issue persist when you make a copy from the printer? Yes - the print is almost non-readable - very, very light

Have you tried printing from a different application? Does the issue persist?  Yes

Have you tried checking with a different ink cartridge?  Yes

Try replacing low, empty or faulty ink cartridges on the printer.  As I stated, I already did this.

Try printing using a different brand of paper.  I am using HP paper - but I did try another brand of paper to run an experiment.  Still prints light......

The other suggestions you offered I did as well - calibrating, cleaning, and aligning.  I am going to try to clean the print heads again, but after doing it before, nothing changed.

It is almost as if the black ink is not coming out as it is suppose to.  Really light and shadowed.  Also, just so you all know, when I change the setting in "Preferences" to the "Best" setting, then the print comes out in blue ink - very light.

I'm beginning to wonder if the black ink printhead is blocked or plugged.......?!

This is reply #2 - a post script to the first reply......

I ran the "clean printhead" application again, and did the deep cleaning of three (3) cleaning times.  In figure #1, you will see that there is still a line through the printout, and the printing is hard to see - very light.

I then ran another "copy" of something, and as you can see in figure #2, the printing is almost un-readable.......

Hope this helps.  Any thoughts and/or suggestions?HP Visual Aide 02.jpgHP Visual Aide 03.jpg

@Wishboy14,

Thanks for the update. It certainly looks like a hardware issue with the printer.
