- Pagewide 477dn duplex on custom paper sizes?

I can print on both sides of paper (duplex) on my Pagewide 477dn MFP just fine, but ONLY when the paper size is 8.5 x 11. If I use a custom paper size (5.5 x 8.5), printing the same document, with the same duplex settings prints on one side only.
How can I persuade the printer to print duplex on custom paper sizes?
Thanks!

Hi,
Automatic duplexing is not supported on any paper size, but only on select sizes.
You may find page 3 on your product's Media Guide below:

For custom sizes, you may perform manual duplexing only, not automatic.

Thanks for the reply, and for the info on paper sizes.
The paper size I've been trying to print duplex is Statement - 8.5x5.5, loaded into Tray 1 in portrait orientation. According to that table of paper sizes, Statement sized paper should be supported for "Automatic Duplex". But when I select "print on both sides" in the Windows printer dialog in Word, it only prints one side of the paper at a time.
Also curious: The paper size table indicates that Statement size paper is not supported in Tray 2. Yet I've run hundreds of pages of Statement paper from Tray 2.

Could you clarify your exact paper size?
A statement size is 5.5 inches (wide) x 8.5 inches (long) on portrait orientation - this is the size mentioned on your first post however you mention 8.5 (wide) x 5.5 (long) in your second post, this is completely different size due to its orientation.
Do you select Statement from the drop-down list or set a manual paper size? those are different things.
Additionally, I suggest making sure your printer firmware is up to date:
