I have envelopes loaded in Drawer 2, and regular paper in Drawer 1. I want to print a PDF in letter size. Instead of choosing Drawer 1, which one would assume would be the default, the printer chooses Drawer 2, then complains the paper is too small. I remove the envelopes from Drawer 2, but now Drawer 2 won't close.
In the online community, I find that HP's preferred solution is to pull the power plug, wait 60 seconds, and put it back.
Is that seriously how HP top-of-the-line printers are designed to work? You can print envelopes ONCE, but then you must remove them and unplug the printer (not even use the power button) before you can print on plain paper again?!
That can't be right. Please respond with how to switch between paper drawers, and how to remove paper without unplugging the printer, afterwards.
(Frankly, since the printer can obviously detect paper size, it ought to be choosing the correct paper drawer automatically. But if I must choose manually, please explain how to do that without unplugging.)

Hi @TF9,
I'd like to help!
Let's try a power reset on the printer
Reset the product
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
- Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
- Turn the printer on. HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.
Try updating the printer's firmware - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware
Also, refer to - Print Driver Settings Guide (Windows)
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
