Hi @Sparky255,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
When your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M377dw indicates a paper jam but no paper is visibly stuck in Tray 1 or Tray 2, it can be quite frustrating. Here are some comprehensive steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
Step 1: Power Cycle the Printer
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 60 seconds.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
Step 2: Check All Paper Paths
- Remove All Paper Trays:
- Take out Tray 1 and Tray 2 and inspect them thoroughly for any small bits of paper or debris.
- Check the Rear Access Door:
- Open the rear access door or duplexer and inspect the area for any hidden paper jams.
- Inspect the Fuser Area:
- Open the fuser access door and carefully inspect the area. Sometimes, small pieces of paper can be lodged in the fuser assembly.
- Check the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF):
- If your printer has an ADF, open it and inspect for any jams or small pieces of paper.
Step 3: Clean the Printer Rollers
- Clean the Rollers:
- Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water to clean the paper rollers. Gently rotate the rollers to clean the entire surface.
- Inspect for Damage:
- Check the rollers for any signs of wear or damage. Worn-out rollers can cause false paper jam errors.
Step 4: Update Printer Firmware
- Check for Firmware Updates:
- Ensure your printer firmware is up to date. Visit the HP support website, search for your printer model, and download the latest firmware updates.
Step 5: Reset the Printer
- Factory Reset:
- Performing a factory reset can sometimes resolve persistent issues. Be aware that this will reset all settings to default.
- To perform a factory reset, navigate to the printer's control panel:
- Go to Setup > Service > Restore Defaults.
- Confirm the reset process and wait for the printer to restart.
Step 6: Check for Sensor Issues
- Inspect Paper Sensors:
- Paper sensors can sometimes get stuck or dirty, causing false paper jam errors. Carefully inspect and clean the sensors with a soft brush or compressed air.
Step 7: Test with Different Paper
- Use Different Paper:
- Try using a different batch or type of paper to rule out any issues with the paper itself.
Step 8: Perform Printer Diagnostics
- Run Diagnostics:
- Use the printer's built-in diagnostics tools to check for hardware issues. Navigate to Setup > Reports > Printer Status Report to see if there are any errors reported.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
