Officejet 9015

This is a new Officejet 9015. There is a gap of about 1 1/4" between the end of the paper (letter size) and the front end of the tray when paper is loaded and pushed towards the rear of the tray. The tray is not extended for legal size paper. After closing the tray, the paper slides into this gap - in other words, towards the front of the tray when it should be towards the back of the tray. The paper feed mechanism won't pick up the paper. If you are very careful and close the drawer very, very slowly the paper might not move much and the feed mechanism might work, but you have to do this for every page to be printed.  The paper width guides are against the edges of the paper, but they bow slightly away from the paper edges near the middle. In previous models (8620 and 8710, for example) the tray has a stop that fills that gap and prevents the paper from sliding.. This 9015 does not have that. How is the paper supposed to stay in place so that the feed mechanism will pick it up? Is the tray defective?

It's a bad tray design.

Take a look at this link from HP on clearing jams where they show paper being pushed forward in the tray b4 closing.
