Hello, my HP MFP M277dw reports a paper jam in tray 2 after starting up, but there is definitely no paper jam. I have already reset the printer. What else can I do?

Hi @JenSch675 ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw is showing a paper jam error in Tray 2 without an actual jam,
here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
Check for Obstructions:
- Open Tray 2 and check for any small pieces of paper or debris that may be stuck. Look closely at the rollers and the paper path.
Clean the Rollers:
- Dust and debris can cause the sensors to misread. Use a lint-free cloth slightly moistened with water to clean the rollers. Allow them to dry completely before testing.
Inspect the Sensors:
- The printer has sensors that detect paper in the tray. If these sensors are dirty or misaligned, they may falsely indicate a jam. Gently clean the sensors with a soft cloth.
Reinsert the Tray:
- Remove Tray 2 completely, then reinsert it to ensure it is seated properly. Sometimes, an improperly seated tray can trigger a jam error.
Reset the Printer:
- Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for about 60 seconds. Plug it back in and turn it on.
Check the Paper Type:
- Ensure that the paper loaded in Tray 2 meets the printer’s specifications (size, type, and weight). Mismatched paper can cause feeding issues.
Update the Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. Updating the firmware can resolve bugs and improve performance.
Run Printer Diagnostics:
- Use the printer’s built-in diagnostic tools. Navigate through the control panel to find diagnostic or maintenance options that may help identify issues.
Perform a Printer Reset:
- If the above steps don't work, try performing a factory reset on the printer. Be aware that this will reset all settings to default.

I hope this helps.
