Yesterday my printer sprang into life and indicated it was going to print. It is on wifi, my phone hotspot, properly password protected etc. I can easily tell how many and which devices are connected to the hotspot and no devices other than my choosing have been connected.
No pages printed and printer went to sleep. There was nothing in the printer queue.
Today HP Smart shows that 2 pages printed on 27 June. Nothing had come out of the printer and I hadn't sent anything to the printer.
Clearly a printer gremlin.

Hi @CRM_S,
Welcome to the HP Support Community
I'd like to help!
I understand your concern and I would like to get some more information on the issue:
- Kindly let me know if you are enrolled on HP Instant Ink program? ( Do not share y;our personal details such as serial, phone number, email ID, including instant ink account number on this public forum)
- Are you able to make a Copy on the printer?
- Did you recently change any inks?
- Was there any updated performed on the printer?
While you respond to that, let's try to perform a hard reset on the printer:
Perform a power reset on the printer.
- Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
- Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP Recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet - Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
- Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
- Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hello,
- Kindly let me know if you are enrolled on HP Instant Ink program? ( Do not share y;our personal details such as serial, phone number, email ID, including instant ink account number on this public forum) Yes. 15 page/month.
- Are you able to make a Copy on the printer? Probably. I used HP Scan and Capture to scan 2 pages on 24 June to jpg, but nothing printed. But not wasting another sheet.
- Did you recently change any inks? No, and not in last year. Inks good
- Was there any updated performed on the printer? Not that I know of. But you never know what these things are up to when left connected to the internet for a time. I can't tell when any update has been done and the printer info screen doesn't seem to have any update info. From the PC apps list:
- HP Smart v 136.1.129.0 updated? 02.05.22
- HP Scan and Capture v 40.0.245.0 updated? 05.04.22
The graph shows 2 pages on 27 June. These are the phantom ones when the printer sprang into life from standby.
I printed 2 pages on 28 June, then switched printer off. Switched on today and the 2 pages from 28 June show as 30 June, which is correct. Printer did nothing as web was updated.
Power reset done. HP switched on normally.
That is all the info I've got.
