Hello, @colin52 - Hope you are well 🙂

Thank you for becoming an HP Forum member. It is a great location to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others!

I understand that you are having difficulty checking the ink level and while scanning using the Photosmart 6520 printer. Do not worry, I’m here to help 🙂

Since the printer is printing fine, the printer hardware is fine. Let’s first try and perform a power drain on the printer. Here are the steps:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Now, try the steps listed below to perform a clean install of the printer drivers to fix the scan issue with the printer assistant:

  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Photosmart printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Now click http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL43742/mp-108722-3/PS6520_1315-1.exe to install the software.
  • Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Cheers 🙂

Hi

Hello, @colin52

Looks like some scanner driver related issue.

Let's try to use the HP Scan and Capture app to scan using your Photosmart printer.

I’d suggest using the HP Smart. Go to https://www.hpsmart.com/us/en to download and install the HP Smart app on your PC.

Let me know if that helps!

Good luck 🙂

Hello, @colin52

Thanks for the update & Great stuff! Glad to know that you were able to fix the scanning issue 🙂

Coming to the ink levels, did you check the ink level on the printer control panel? Is the printer control panel also displaying the incorrect ink levels?

If so please update the printer firmware. Go to http://hp.care/2pBmpWE and update the printer firmware. Restart the printer and then check the ink level again.

Let me know how that goes!

Thank you again and may you also have a great day and even better tomorrow 🙂

@colin52,

Thank you for your reply, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that the issue still persists after following the steps provided in the previous interaction.

You may also check the ink levels by printing the print a self-test or Supplies Status report.
