I have installed new color and black cartridges (genuine HP96 and HP 97).  The printer is connected to the computer directly through a USB port. Device Manager shows no issues. When I print documents in any program (e.g. Adobe Acrobat and WordPerfect) the printer selects a small sample of the text and then prints it continuously on the page over and over again until the print job completes. If I print a Test Page and Alignment Page internally from the printer menu they print normally. I have run the Clean Cartridge command from the menu. If I run HPPSdr.exe the test page that it creates duplicates the problem that I have experienced (it prints three lines of the alphabet as a paragraph and repeats the same 14 times on a single page). I have changed the printer to a different USB port to no effect. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer in Windows. I have unplugged the printer power and disconnected it from the computer and then reconnected it to no effect. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the cartridges to no effect. There have been no error messages on the screen throughout these repair attempts. I have run out of ideas!

First off, we need to determine if the issue is hardware or software related.

Please perform a few copies directly  from the printer without any communication from the computer (if it has not been done already).

  • Please try to make a few copies directly from the printer without any intervention from the computer. Please place the required document face down on the flatbed scanner and touch the copy button. If it copies fine, then the issue could be software related.

If the copy comes out fine then visit this link to uninstall the printer:  http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c02259020

Please follow this steps only “Step 2: Remove the printer from the devices list” from the link.

Then please uninstall all the HP drivers from print server properties option.

Steps: go to control panel->devices and printers-> print server properties->drivers->select the printer and click on remove.

Print server properties show up at the top when you select the correct printer option.

Then visit this link : http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01796879

to install the built-in drivers.

If the issue still continues, then clean the nozzles from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Photosmart-8100-Printer-series/397809/model/397811/document/c...

Install a new cartridge and try again to copy. If the copy does not come out correctly, then it is a hardware issue with the unit and it needs to be serviced. If nothing works, please contact HP phone support to get the unit serviced. If the unit is under warranty, repair services or product upgrades should be covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.

You could look up the unit’s warranty by visiting this link: http://support.hp.com/gb-en/checkwarranty/  and select the country of purchase and follow the on-screen instructions. Link to visit HP phone support: http://hp.com/contacthp Please select the country of purchase and follow the on-screen instructions.

Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. Smiley Happy Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you.

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles. Smiley Happy

David:

Thanks for the help. There is no scanner on this model so I went straight to step 2.  The printer did not show in Programs and Features (and still doesn't after the fix).  I followed the instructions and, additionally, uninstalled three other HP software programs. Thereafter I manually deleted the remaining HP folders and files in Program Files (x86) and ran CCleaner to remove program remnants and to clean the registry.  Upon reboot and a reconnection of the printer to the computer it seems to be working normally again.
