I am having a problem with my HP 8450.  I uninstalled the drivers per you instructions.  When I plugged back in the USB cord, windows automatically installed the software.  However, windows put it in "other devices" and did not recognize it as a printer.  I them removed the device from "other devices" and tried to add a printer manually.  However, the USB 001 port was not available as an option.

Welcome to the HP Community

Could you please help me with the operating system of the computer?

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor to check connectivity if you are using Windows 8 and above.

Download a special version of HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  1. Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  2. Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.

  3. Once HP Print and Scan Doctor opens, click Start, and then select your printer.

    • If your printer is not in the list, turn it off and on and then click Retry.

    • If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  4. If a screen prompts you to turn on printer updates, click Yes.

  5. If a screen prompts you to make your printer the default printer, click Yes.

  6. Try to print.

Keep me posted, how it goes!

I am running Windows 10 Home version 1809.  I have tried to run the Scan doctor but it cannot find the printer.  Windows is not recognizing the printer as it is listed in "other devices"  I also tried running the scan doctor before I uninstalled the printer and it did not fix the problem.  I have been reading many other similar posts for the Photosmart 8150, and so far I have not seen any that have a solution.

HP Photosmart 8450 Photo Printer does not have a driver for Windows 10.

However, Windows contains built-in print drivers for many types of printers. These drivers support basic printer functionality for most print jobs.

I recommend you delete the driver at the root level and Install the drivers, follow the steps below:

Remove the USB if connected

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose `Delete' or `Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

Then, Click on this link:  https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01796879 for Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver.

Try to print.

Thank you for the response.  I have been running on Windows 10 for a very long time and have never had any printing problems.   And per the HP user information, the HP 8450 should be supported with Windows 10. It was just with the latest update that my printer stopped working.  (I believe the May update).  Per my previous post, I already deleted and reinstalled the HP drivers and it did not work.  It showed it as an unrecognized device.

The link you provided just puts me back to the same support community unless my printer is under warranty or if I want to buy some sort of support plan.   Are there not any other options?
