Received HP Photosmart d110 second hand, boots up to printer cartridge error and can’t get it to do anything else. The black cartridge appears to be sitting slightly lower than the color cartridge. I’ve done a hard reset and cleaned the cartridges. I’m apprehensive to buy new ink if that’s not the problem since they are non refundable. Attached picture to show differences in how the cartridges fit.

Hi @Jayroo210,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're dealing with a common issue where the cartridges aren't seated properly, which can cause errors.
Here are some steps you can try to address the problem:
- Check Cartridge Installation: Ensure that both cartridges are installed correctly. Remove each cartridge and reinsert it, making sure it's firmly in place. Sometimes, a slight misalignment can cause issues.
- Inspect Cartridge Contacts: Check the electrical contacts on both the cartridges and inside the printer. Clean them gently with a soft, lint-free cloth and a bit of rubbing alcohol if necessary.
- Check for Obstructions: Make sure there are no obstructions or debris in the cartridge area that might prevent proper alignment.
- Perform Printer Maintenance: Use the printer’s built-in maintenance options to align the cartridges. This can sometimes be accessed through the printer’s control panel or software on your computer.
- Update Printer Firmware: Ensure that your printer’s firmware is up to date. Sometimes firmware updates can resolve compatibility issues with cartridges. Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Try New Cartridges: If you've tried everything and the problem persists, it might be worth trying new cartridges. Even if you're apprehensive about spending money, sometimes the issue is with the cartridges themselves.
