Photosmart 7520
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a Photosmart 7520 printer that had stopped printing only the black cartridge. I followed the steps and took the ink cartridges out, took the print head assembly out and cleaned (definitely needed it), put the print head assembly back in, the ink cartridges back in and now it won't even go through an alighment test. I love this printer and the quality of photos it gives me. I am lost without it as it is my main printer. (I also have a relic - an HP LaserJet 5N - that I can't get my computer to recognize now that I've upgraded to Windows 10, but I'll leave that problem for another day).

Also, is HP still making the photosmart series of printers? If not, what has taken it's place and do any of HP's printers print directly to a printable cd/dvd?

Hello, @poodles123 – Greetings!

Thanks for joining the HP support forums! I will certainly do my best to help you with your printer issue 🙂

Going through your post, I understand that you are facing issues while printing in black on your Photosmart 7520 printer. I appreciate all your efforts in troubleshooting the issue!

I believe the alignment is not successful since there is no blank printed on the sheet. Since you have already tried cleaning the print head manually, I would suggest cleaning the cartridges using the automated tool. Check “step 5” here: http://hp.care/2kOZxDB Also, make sure you have tried the other steps mentioned there.

To answer your second question, no, HP is not manufacturing the Photosmart printers.  Instead, we are manufacturing the HP Envy printers which succeeded the Photosmart printers.

Also, to the best of my knowledge, HP currently has no consumer printers which can print to a CD. These were the older model printers which had this capability: HP Photosmart D5460, D5463, D5468, and D7560 Printers

I hope that answers your concern adequately. Let me know!

Good luck 🙂

Thank you, DVortex for the greetings and fast reply!! You answered all my questions. I had actually gone back and tried one more time (third time is a charm!!) to clean the print head assembly, only this time making sure I was very meticulous about cleaning it and about resetting the assembly back into the printer. Voila!! It worked!! (I love this printer and didn't want to have to start replacing parts or replace it altogether, and must admit, there was a LOT of black ink clogging everything in there.) Now I just need to research and get the scanner and fax functions working again since upgrading to Windows 10. (I hate OS upgrades...lol...!!!)

I'm sorry to hear that HP is no longer making printers that print directly onto a cd/dvd. I guess I'll keep my little Epson around for that function. (

Thank you for the info as to the Photosmart series being replaced by the Envy series. Good info to have should I find the need to either replace or get another printer. I happen to love the quality I get on my photos from all the HP printers I have had over the years, so am a true believer in the product. I even used HP's cameras in the day and was sorry to see them drop this line totally.

Thank you again!! Now onto my last problem...tackling the LaserJet 5N driver issues. I hate having to go through this every time there's an upgrade, etc. Now, even though it is connected by ethernet cord to the router, it no longer sees the internet (no IP address) and, of course, I can't get my computer to see it, even after having gone through Windows Update several times and finally getting the driver to show up and selecting it. (Ugh...I'm am almost to the point of replacing the laser printer with a newer model, if I can find one where the price is right!)

Hello @poodles123

Great stuff! Thanks for the kind words & Glad to know that you were able to fix the issue 🙂

I would suggest using a universal print driver for your LaserJet printer. This will help you print easily from any of your PC's. Download the drivers from here: http://hp.care/2jExLos

If you need further assistance please do reply with the product details of your LaserJet machine.

Thank you again and may you also have a great day and even better tomorrow!
