Newly purchased printer, cannot connect wifi to print from laptop. Message keeps saying "printer offline" Can print via wifi from iPhone, so something is connected.
Been going in circles for two days in HP support....no help found. No similar topics, no phone number for support, nothing. The "printer assist' site doesn't even connect to their help pages. Found this site by sheer accident.
Can someone help me?
Thanks,
Charlie

Standard Windows installs often set the driver port as a WSD port. The problem is this port type is notorious for not reporting printer status properly. On your PC, go to control panel>devices and printers and then right click on the icon for your printer and select "printer properties" from the drop down menu. Click on the ports tab in the next window and see what port is check marked. If the port name starts with WSD then that is quite possibly the problem. Click add new port, and create a port of type "standard TCP/IP". Use the IP address of the printer as the address and follow through the steps. It is also suggested that you manually assign that IP address through the network settings menu on the printer so that the printer is always on the same address.

Hi,
Thank you for your reply. I was finally able to figure it out. You gave me a place to start. Yes, the printer was set to a different port, but through my previous attempts to figure it out, I also had about 18 printers set up to service my computer, and none worked. I deleted them all, then had to plug my laptop in, add the printer back in (it added two without me doing anything) but then figured out what you meant about ports.
The challenge was the IP address....also had no idea what that meant, but thanks to Google, and then searching through the various print outs from trying to set up my laptop connection earlier, I found that. Luckily, it appears to have done something automatically once I typed that in, as I also had no clue what you meant to "add it manually" It only took me about three hours this evening to get it to work.
I also had a lot of trouble trying to get back to this forum as that is also a challenge.... HP has really gone out of their way to hide it!!
Appreciate your help!
