HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer - N911a
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP 8600 laserjet all in one won't turn on.  I only use it for scanning.  Scanned a bunch in morning.  Tried to scan a page in afternoon and only got in preview of scan what looked like a whole page full of ========= on every line and from the top to the bottom.  This happened whether I used the ADF or the flatbed glass.  Turned it off, unplugged,  Plugged back in.  Same thing.  Rebooted computer.  Same thing.  Disconnected everything, waited about 20 minutes. reconnected everything.

NOW the on/off button lights for a few seconds when I plug it into outlet.  Light goes off and printer is dead.  It will NOT turn on.  When I run the troubleshooting program, it can find the printer but agrees that it isn't turned on because it won't turn on enough to work, just enough to light the on/off button for a few seconds.  (So it ISN'T an electrical problem.)

Hi @LeeAR3,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 might be having a hardware issue.

Here are a few steps to try:

Check the Power Supply: Make sure the power cord is securely connected to both the printer and the wall outlet. If possible, try using a different power cord that is known to work with another device.

Inspect the Power Button: Sometimes the power button itself can become stuck or malfunction. Make sure it’s not physically stuck or damaged.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Unplug the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait for about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and then into the printer.
  • Try turning the printer on again.

Check for Internal Issues:

  • Sometimes, internal components might be at fault. If you are comfortable opening the printer, you can check for any loose connections inside the printer, particularly around the power supply and main board.

Examine the Printer for Error Codes:

  • If you can get any kind of display or if there are any lights flashing in a pattern, refer to the printer’s manual for specific error codes or patterns that might indicate what’s wrong.

Refer to this document: HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer - N911a  User manual

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Well, that didn't work.  I had scanned 10 pages in the AM.  Attempted to scan 1 page in afternoon and got gibberish on the preview.  Tried again using both the ADF & flatbed glass.  Neither worked.  Unplugged for about 20 minutes.  Same results with all scan methods.  Rebooted PC.  After which, I only got the on/ioff button lit for a few seconds.  Nevertheless, I repeated the process again to no avail.   It won't turn on at all.  It died.
