i have setup a staic ip address in the printer of 192.168.0.250. i have changed all the router setting to the one previously stated in this post. my printer still does notwake until i power the printer off and back on. is there any way to fix this? i am never able to use eprint or print without restarting printer. it is pointless to have a wireless printer if i have to use it this way

Welcome to HP forums, I see that your printer goes offline and you have done some troubleshooting steps.

Which operating system is installed on the computer to which this printer is connected to?

Perform a power reset

  1. Turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  4. Wait at least 30 seconds.
  5. Plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector and printer.
  6. Turn on the printer.

Reply with the result of the above-mentioned steps, for further assistance.

Cheers.

i tried the power reset but have the same problem. the os on my laptop is windows 10 and i have a iPhone and iPad. not sure why that information is needed though. the problem is in the printer. it sleeps and at that point it cant be seen by any device and i cant even use epriint. the first few months i had the printer i did not have this problem. at that time i had the same devices and same modem/router.

Thanks for the reply.

I appreciate your time and effort.

I understand the issue better now.

Update the printer and router firmware

Click here and refer this HP document to update the printer firmware.

Assign a manual IP address to the printer.

Obtain the IP address of the printer (which can found by pressing the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel)

Enter the IP address on the web browser (Ex: chrome, IE) to enter the printer EWS page.

Go to the “Network” tab, click on “Wireless (802.11) then click on “Network address (IPV4)

Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.

Click on the radio button which says “Manual DNS server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)

Let me know if that helps.

To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others and please give the same post a Kudos.

Cheers.

SandyTech20, I have a customer who has an HP Envy 4500 that has "auto off" turned off and sleep mode set to the maximum of 15 minutes.  There is NO OPTION to turn off sleep mode.  The printer is on it's latest firmware version.  Can you tell me of a way to turn off sleep mode?  The sleep mode is very disruptive and the printer doesn't always wake up correctly and print a job sent to it.  Thank you!!

@SmithComputer

Thank you for joining HP Forums.

It's a pleasure assisting you in finding answers to your technical queries.

HP printer is designed in such a way that there is no option to turn off the sleep mode.

If the printer is not waking up from the sleep mode follow the below steps.

Update the firm for the printer from the printer front panel or from the computer

Use this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c02919168

Restart the printer.

Follow the below steps to assign Manual IP:

1) Print a Network configuration page from the printer's control panel.

2) Look for IP address from the Network configuration page.

3) Open web browser - Chrome or IE or any other browser that you are using.

4) Type the IP address mentioned on Network configuration page into the browser's address bar or URL bar and press enter button.

5) Go to the Network tab.

6) Click on Networking from the left pane.

7) Then click on Network Address (IP).

😎 Click on Manual IP Address and go to suggest a Manual IP.

9) Scroll down the screen and select Manual DNS server.

10) Enter the Primary and secondary DNS server from the Network Configuration page into the Manual Preferred DNS server field.

11) Click on Apply.

Refer to the video link for step by step instructions - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCnYyq80V9g

Note: The video is for win 8 but steps are similar for other operating systems as well. You need to enter the IP address in the browser's URL or the address bar to access the printer page.

Keep me posted, how it goes!

If the information I've provided was helpful, give us some reinforcement by clicking the Accepted Solution and Kudos buttons, that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Have a great day!
