I've been using the print anywhere feature on my printer for the past year but it suddenly stopped working. I typically print from my home network to my office printer (at a different location). The printer is connected to the office wifi and my laptop was set up on the same network prior to taking my laptop home and printing remotely from my home network.

When using the hp smart app in the past I have been easily able to print remotely but now there is an error that pops up when I try to that says, "getting remote printer status' and the printer status is green but the error message doesn't go away and I am not longer to click print. Please help!!! The print anywhere is the only reason I purchased this printer.

I had the print anywhere toggle on from the hp smart app

Hi @Erikavickers,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're encountering an issue with the HP Print Anywhere feature, where the printer is no longer responding when trying to print remotely through the HP Smart app. This could be caused by several factors, such as network issues, app settings, or printer settings that might need to be reconfigured.

Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue:

Check HP Smart App and Printer Connection

  • Ensure that both your HP Smart app and printer are connected to the internet and on the same network or are properly set up for remote printing. Since you are trying to print remotely, the office printer needs to be online, and your laptop needs to have a stable internet connection.
  • Open the HP Smart app and confirm that the printer is listed as available and online. The green status light typically indicates it's connected, but double-check this in the app settings.
  • Try signing out and back in to the HP Smart app and check if it resolves the issue.

Verify Printer is Set Up Correctly

  • On the printer itself, go to the HP Smart app or HP's web interface to ensure the Print Anywhere feature is still enabled.
  • Make sure the printer is not in Offline Mode or showing any connectivity issues. You may need to restart the printer, the router, and your laptop to re-establish a fresh connection.

Re-enable Print Anywhere

  • Go to the HP Smart app and select your printer. Under the Print Anywhere settings, toggle the setting off and then back on.
  • If you're using HP's website (HP Smart Account), log in and verify if the Print Anywhere feature is still enabled for the correct printer.

Check for Firmware or App Updates

  • Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer. Firmware updates often resolve issues like this. Go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update Printer in the HP Smart app.
  • Similarly, ensure your HP Smart app is updated to the latest version from your device's app store.

Reset Network Settings

  • Sometimes, network settings can interfere with remote printing. You can reset your printer's network settings (on the printer’s control panel) and reconnect it to the office Wi-Fi.
  • In the HP Smart app, remove the printer and set it up again with the Print Anywhere option enabled.

Check Firewall/Router Settings

  • Verify if any firewall or router changes might be blocking the connection between the printer and the HP servers that enable remote printing.
  • If you're on a VPN or different network (such as a home network), this could interfere with the print job. Try disabling any VPN or check router firewall settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you - for any Mac users here is what I did for a solution:

-> Went to System Settings

-> Printers

-> Deleted the printer

-> Re-added printer [has to be on the same network as the printer to link]

Then it was working as normal! Slightly inconvenient as all remote workers had to come into office and reset their printer settings but that may be a more Mac issue or compatibility with the app and Mac

Thank you!
