Running HP print and scan Doctor the initial search finds not only my current 8710 but also my old printer 8600 which I removed from my W10 64-bit.

Hello,
It is because your old printer entries are still existing in the system.
Below listed steps should fix the issue.
Go to Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Devices and Printers
Select your printer and on the top of the window click on "Printer server Properties"
A pop up window show up.
Click on tab "Driver", you'd find few entries of your old printer.
Select one at a time and then click "Remove"
Once you have removed all the entries of old printer. Click OK. Then restart your printer.
Now Run the Print Scan Doctor.
