I've just bought an HP smart tank 5108 printer and the error ! light keeps coming on. It's printed the test page and a couple of documents but then the ! light keeps coming on and it stops again.

The "!" error light on your HP Smart Tank 5108 typically indicates a general error that could be related to paper, ink, connectivity, or hardware. Since you've successfully printed a few pages, let's walk through some steps to identify and resolve the issue:

Check for Paper Jams or Feed Issues

  • Open all access doors and trays.
  • Remove any jammed paper or debris.
  • Ensure paper is loaded correctly and not curled or damp.

Check Ink Levels and Cartridges

  • Make sure all ink tanks have sufficient ink.
  • Ensure the ink tank caps are properly closed.
  • If you recently refilled ink, allow the printer a few minutes to recalibrate.

Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug it from the power source for 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

This can reset temporary errors.

 

Update Printer Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause unexpected behavior.

Check for Error Messages on HP Smart App
