I have a message on my printer that says missing or failed printhead. The printhead appears to be missing not detected or incorrectly installed. Does this have to be serviced or can I purchase and replace the printhead myself?
I have an HP OfficeJet pro 8620.

Hi @Doubleaj ,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're receiving a "missing or failed printhead" error message on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8620, there are a few steps you can try troubleshooting steps
Check Printhead Installation:
- Ensure that the printhead is correctly installed. Open the printer cover and verify that the printhead is securely in place.
- If you recently replaced the printhead or installed new cartridges, make sure they are installed correctly and securely.
Restart the Printer:
- Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for about 60 seconds.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on. Check if the error persists.
Update Firmware:
- Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer on the HP support website. Sometimes, updating the firmware can resolve hardware-related issues.
Clean the Printhead:
- HP printers often have a built-in utility for cleaning printheads. You can find this option in the printer settings or on the printer control panel. Follow the on-screen instructions to clean the printhead.
Inspect for Physical Damage:
- Examine the printhead for any visible signs of damage or obstruction. Ensure there is no foreign material blocking the printhead.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.-
