I still have the 4” x 6” print format from iPad print
BUT:
Just noticed that the APPS: Excel, Word and Powerpoint print correctly in A4 format.
Strange, but Microsoft seems to be able to adress the printer better than Apple, and/or HP communicates better with the Microsoft Apps?
Can Anybody explain this?

Andersroi, there are a few different ways an app can invoke AirPrint to send the print job. One of these is to take control of the rendering and send it as a pdf including page sizing. As far as I can tell this has always worked and I suspect that is what Microsoft apps are doing, and have always done. In my testing I noticed that one of the few things to work early on was printings photos, which defaults to a high quality setting sized at 4”x6”.
As of iOS 11.2.1 all my tests print correctly on an OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus with IPv4 disabled. This is from both an iPad and an iPhone.

tr1948, when you say "Have put 192.168.123.1 into my browser (google) and get nothing that helps me", what exactly do you mean. Did you put that into the search box on the google home page and click 'Google Search'? Did you put it into the address bar at the top of the browser window? Did you get a page of search results back, or a blank page?
Try typing http://192.168.123.1 into the address bar and hit return (check if that's still the address of the printer first). You should see the printers settings homepage. It should looks something like this:
Please let us know how you get on.
