HP Laserjet Pro M254dw
macOS 10.15 Catalina

Hi,

I have the printer HP Laserjet Pro M254dw and use a Mac, when I first got the printer everything worked fine and then earlier this year it I started having problems with printing. Majority of the time it goes to print and says it is sending to printer and printing but then it cuts out and nothing happens. Every so often it prints a document or sometimes it prints a few pages and cuts out. No errors come up it just says printer is idle in settings. I have tried resetting the printer and reinstalling on my Mac but nothing happens. Anyone able to help as its driving me insane!

Thanks

@Southy80, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

  • Which application are you trying to print from?
  • Have you tried printing different types of documents like PDF, Word, or Webpages and check if the issue persists?
  • Is the printer connected wirelessly?

Perform a ping test to check the connectivity

  1. Obtain the IP address of the printer by clicking on the Wireless icon on the printer
  2. On the MAC Go to Spotlight > search for Network utility > select Ping tab > enter the IP address of the printer in the box
  3. Check the second box that says Send only > 10 pings
  4. Click on ping > Check the results at the end if any packets are lost
  5. Note: There should be 0% packet loss, share the results in your next post.

Update the printer firmware

Go to Setup > tools > update the printer

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Also, check for any software updates on MAC

Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
