i have a networked HP Envy 5530 which is old but is working fine. My old HP desktop is dying but I can still print documents without any problems. I have recently purchased a Dell slim desktop ECS1250 and I am having problems with printouts. It will only print part of a document eg, if there are 3 pages, it will print page 3, then the the first part of page 2 then stops. Same thing happens on reprint and it stops in same place! This happens printing from word and outlook. I've checked all printer settings like paper size, type etc. Can sometimes print word documents but it seems to be worse if there is a picture in the document. I have tried reinstalling drivers, clearing print queue, stopping and restarting spooler all to no effect. (can still print from other devices on home network - problem only occurs on new pc). Ended up contacting Dell tech support who dialled in remotely and tested out everything and found no errors. The technician suggested that the printer is not compatible with my new desktop which is apparently a recently introduced new model. Does this sound feasible? I am reluctant to buy a new printer and find that the same thing happens. Any suggestions about how to fix the problem would be welcome please. Peter

I understand your HP ENVY 5530 printer prints incomplete pages only from your new Dell desktop, while it works correctly from other devices. Let’s go through a few focused steps to isolate and resolve this.

Confirm the print driver type in use
Older printers like the ENVY 5530 work best with a full-feature or PCL driver, not a generic or V4 driver.
On the Dell PC, check Printers & Scanners → Printer Properties → About/Advanced to see if it’s using a “Microsoft IPP” or “Class” driver.

Switch to an HP-specific driver
Remove the printer completely, then reinstall it using an HP ENVY 5530 full driver or HP Universal Print Driver (PCL6).
Avoid automatic Windows driver installation during setup.

Disable advanced print features
In Printer Properties → Advanced:

Uncheck Enable advanced printing features

Set Print directly to the printer
This prevents data chunking issues that often cause partial-page stops.

Change the printer port
In Printer Properties → Ports:

If using a WSD port, switch to a Standard TCP/IP port

Enter the printer’s IP address manually
WSD ports are a common cause of incomplete network prints on newer PCs.

Test with spooling disabled
In Advanced settings:

Select Print directly to the printer

Disable spooling temporarily
This reduces memory buffering issues, especially with images.

Lower print resolution
In Printing Preferences:

Set quality to Normal or Draft

Disable image enhancements
This helps if the issue worsens when documents contain pictures.

Check document rendering
In Word and Outlook:

Try printing as PDF first, then print the PDF
If PDFs print fully, the issue is document rendering rather than hardware.

Confirm Windows print processor
In Printer Properties → Advanced → Print Processor:

Select WinPrint

Set data type to RAW
This ensures proper data handling for older printers.

Temporarily disable bidirectional support
In Printer Properties → Ports:

Uncheck Enable bidirectional support
This can prevent mid-job communication failures.

I hope this helps.
