Suddenly my printer will not print. Briefly shows up in the print que, sounds like it is readying itself to print then nothing. I have tried everything I can find to do and nothing changes.

Before you uninstall the printer software,

Take a look at the Temp folder permissions.

Failed permissions can cause a job to show up briefly and then suddenly disappear from the queue.

Jobs in Print Queue Disappear

If the print job is making its way to the print queue and then disappearing,

Check / Correct the folder permission(s)

  • Temp folder requires full permissions, including Read / Write, for current user
  • Check / add / edit permissions for user (current login) on Temp folders

C:\Windows\Temp

C:\Users\AccountName\AppData\Local\Temp

Temp_Folder_Permissions_3Temp_Folder_Permissions_3

What else?

If the Print Queue is corrupted, jobs might get stuck in the queue, that is, not remove themselves.

Print Queue / Print Service Reset

After a print job has been accepted, it is turned over the Windows Print Services for completion.

When a job is "stuck in the queue", it is sometimes due to Print Services having hung, become stuck, or otherwise failing to properly complete the job.

Start Here:  Print job stuck in Queue

and / or

First, check that Windows Update does not need to install updates (or Restart)

Settings > Update and Security > Check for Updates

NOTE:  If an update is already pending, install that update > Restart the computer and log in

Next...

Manual Queue Reset

Details…

Control Panel > icon view > Administrative Tools > Services

Scroll down, find, Right-Click, and Stop Print Spooler Service

Open File Explorer (formally Windows Explorer)

Navigate to the folder and Delete the files from folder C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS

Back in Services

Start Print Spooler Service

What else?

If the printer software is corrupted, print jobs can fail to complete.

The symptoms vary and "this" symptom is not generally on the list of common "stuck queue = corrupt software" list.

Nonetheless, if you have not done so, consider reinstalling the printer software.

Uninstall Existing Printer Software (Full Feature Software)

Uninstall HP printer software and drivers

Reminder:  Windows > Uninstall HP printer software, and then remove the printer from your Devices list.

Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features >

Find / Select > Uninstall the printer software

Restart the computer and log in

NOTE:  If software will not uninstall, appears to be removed and is “still hanging around” after you uninstall / Restart...

Microsoft:  Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed

OR

Revo Uninstaller (Free version)

then

Restart the computer and log in
