hp envy 5010
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Wirelessly connected to desktop and was working fine until recently.  Now print requests open the Print dialog box, but clicking ok then opens Save As dialog box rather than initiating print.  Printer connection is live: scan still works.  Problem originated soon after installation of Windows updates but I have already restored desktop to a reference point prior to these updates but glitch persists.

Is the 5010 set as the default printer?

Check the Printers and scanners in settings, make sure that the "Allow Windows to manage my default printer" is OFF.

Have you tried installing the printer?

Windows to manage default printer is off. I have installed the printer and the drivers and it was working but now are no longer. Should I uninstall and reinstall drivers and/or firmware?

HP Recommended

Delete the driver at root level and retry.
In the search box on the taskbar, type Control Panel and select it from the results.
Select Program and Features
Select your HP Printer
Select Uninstall
Open Devices and printers
In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose `Delete' or `Remove Device'
Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
Type printui.exe /s and click Ok.
Click on the "Drivers" tab
Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
Select Ok
Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
Close Devices and Printers
Reboot your computer
