HP 6968 with HPLIP
Linux

I'm having some problems with printing on envelopes.

I have 6 1/2" wide by 3 1/2" high envelopes.   I'm using LibreOffice on top of Xubuntu 16.04, with HPLIP installed and working.  I'm having to print with the envelopes oriented 180 degrees from HP instructions, and on reverse landscape orientation according to HPLIP.  I get the return address block in the upper left corner, I can place the mailing address where it needs to go, and I can even set text for where a postal bar code would go.

However, the return address is 3/4" off the left side of the envelope because I can't find where to change the printable area to move the return address block further to the left.  With reverse landscape orientation, the left edge of the envelope is the top of the page, and the 3/4" is set somewhere in the printer or HPLIP settings.

Can anyone help me change this?  I'd like to get the return address about 1/4" off the left side of the envelope.  As a bonus, I'd like to get the printable area to start at the top of the page on a full page print job, so that the printer matches LibreOffice and Inkscape.

Any tips appreciated.   If it calls for having Windows in some form, my latest version is Windows 7 if I have to.

Hi,
This margin cannot be changed.

The steps you reffer to might be generic, the printer specifications directly refer to your printer model and list its capabilities and limitations.

Hi,

The document margins must match (or exceed) these margin settings in the portrait orientation for envelope, the hardware cannot exceed those margins:

Left and Right - 2.9 mm (0.114 inch)
Top and Bottom - 16.5 mm (0.65 inch)

You may find its specifications below, see Paper-handling specifications > Print margins:

OK.  Then *something* is missing.

From your citation, a 3.63 x 6.5 envelope (identified as a 6 3/4 envelope, and a standard size) should have a "top" (left) margin of 0.65, which matches the issue.

However, the instructions for printing in Windows versions (I haven't checked with Mac instructions yet) say that this margin of 0.65" can be changed.

Can this margin *not* be changed, or can it be changed only in Windows or Mac printing?

Then it's a design flaw.  I would need to allow for 0..65" of unprintable area both top and bottom, and some measure of unprintable area on the side, of my regular-sized desktop publishing pieces.  That's sometimes a problem.

Thanks for the answer.
