Deskjet 1050 J410
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I frequently get a "print carriage stalled" message when printing to my 1050 J410 printer.    To correct, the message says to manually move the carriage, which I have done.    I am able to print 1 or 2 pages, then get the same error.

Is this a problem I may be able to correct ?

I am looking for some information that will tell me how to open up the printer so I can get inside to see if something is binding the carriage movement.    Please advice if something like that exists.

thank you

Hi @rockydean,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I came across your post and want to assist you. I understand you are having issues related to HP Printer. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

  • When was the last time the printer was working fine?
  • Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?
  • Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?
  • Have you checked for any obstructions inside the printer?
  • Are you able to move the carriage manually?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Perform a hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

Remove all the ink cartridges and then try to perform a hard reset on the printer.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Now insert the ink cartridges and then try to print a test page and check if it works.

If the issue persists, I would suggest you follow all the steps suggested in the support document for - The Carriage is Stuck for HP Deskjet 1050, 1050A, 2050, and 2050A, and Deskjet Ink Advantage 2060 Al...

I did everything you suggested.   I also sprayed some lubricant on a cloth and wiped the "shaft" the carriage moves on.   So far the printer is working fine.

thanks for your help

Was just about ready to throw this old clunker in the bin when I read your solution. Followed the instructions and it now appears to be functioning properly. Thanks - none of the other solutions I found by searching the internet, had the desired results.
