HP ENVY 4520 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Printer was working fine two days ago.  After replacing an empty color ink, could not get the printer to print a complete alignment page.  The alignment page has the color print portion but the black print portion was missing.  The printer does not print an all-black document.  How do I fix the printer to print in black ink and then print me a complete alignment page so I can align the printer?

 

Also have an error message on the printer control panel. "The cartridges are set to default print quality." What do I need to fix?  Does it relate to printer no able to print in black? Thanks for any help I can get.

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Restart the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
  3. Remove the cartridges.
  4. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
  5. Plug the power cord back in.
  6. Wai for few minutes and then insert the cartridges (let printer prompt for cartridges)
  7. Turn on the printer

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows only):

Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.

Thanks for helping me with my printer problem. Had trouble downloading HP Print and Scan Doctor.  After downloading, I click the "extract" button. It started to extract the files and advise me that it couldn't a files.  I don't know which file.  It continued and the HP Print and Scan Doctor problem was added to my computer / computer desktop.  I opened it and used it to try to fix my printer problem, but it didn't work.  Still doesn't print in black ink. Don't know if HP Print and Scan Doctor program working properly.  Try again later.
