I have Office Jet Pro 8500A 910 printer.  Replaced all Ink Cartridges.  Now I am getting error 0081.  Cleaned the printheads and contacts but still keeps giving me the same message.  Any comments please

Hi @Harvey4 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the error code 0081 on the HP OfficeJet Pro 8500A generally points to a hardware issue, often related to the printhead or cartridge system. Here are some steps to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Verify Ink Cartridges

  • Ensure all cartridges are genuine HP cartridges. Non-HP cartridges or refilled ones can sometimes cause errors.
  • Check each cartridge for any visible damage, such as leaks or bent contacts.

2. Reinstall the Printhead

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect it from power.
  • Open the cartridge access door and remove the printhead.
  • Clean the electrical contacts on the printhead and in the printer with a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water.
  • Reinstall the printhead and cartridges securely.
  • Close the printer and reconnect it to power.

3. Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Turn off the printer and disconnect it from the power source.
  2. Wait 2-3 minutes.
  3. Reconnect the printer and turn it back on.
  4. Check if the error persists.

4. Run a Printhead Cleaning Cycle

  • From the printer’s control panel, navigate to Setup > Tools > Clean Printhead.
  • Run the cleaning cycle and test for any changes.

5. Update Printer Firmware

  • Go to the HP Support website and check if there's a firmware update available for your model.
  • Install the update if necessary

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Gaya1239,

Thank you for taking time to send me the solution to my 0081 error on my printer but the issue is that I am unable to carry out any operations as it keeps going to error 0081. I think the printer is due for the dump heap.

I have tried new print heads, new cartridges, performed all the actions in your suggestions but no change.  Then you for trying to help.  This was my back up printer.
