HP OfficeJet 4650 All-in-One Printer

I was printing something when the error code 0XB9380FC6 showed up on screen. It has been there and the lights have been blinking for at least 24 hours now. I tried turning it off and leaving it overnight but when I turned it back on after a minute the error code came up again. I have wireless wifi connection and this hasn't

Hi @Mick1979

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

The error code 0XB9380FC6 on your HP OfficeJet 4650, along with blinking lights, signals a firmware-level fault that prevents normal operation. A full power reset and firmware recovery may help restore functionality.

Thank you for explaining the situation so clearly—it’s incredibly frustrating to have your printer locked up with an error for over 24 hours, especially after trying a power cycle.

Let’s walk through a few precise steps to help your printer recover and get back to printing.

Step 1: Perform a Full Power Reset

This clears residual memory and may release the error state.

  1. Turn off the printer using the power button.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and from the wall outlet.
  3. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  4. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds (while unplugged).
  5. Reconnect the power cord directly to a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).
  6. Turn the printer back on and check if the error clears.

Step 2: Check for Firmware Recovery

If the printer powers on but still shows the error:

  1. Disconnect any USB or network cables.
  2. Power off the printer.
  3. Press and hold Power + Cancel + Copy Black simultaneously.
  4. While holding the buttons, turn the printer back on.
  5. Continue holding for 10–15 seconds, then release.

This may trigger a firmware recovery mode.

Step 3: Update Firmware via HP Software

If the printer becomes responsive:

Step 4: Run HP’s Error Troubleshooter

This tool checks for startup faults and system errors.

If the printer remains unresponsive after these steps, the issue may be internal to the logic board or firmware chip. You’ve already shown great patience—let’s see if a reset and recovery sequence can bring it back to life.

Let me know how the printer responds after these steps, and I’ll guide you further if needed.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
