I have an error icon of an envelope on my HP Deskjet printer and I can't clear it.  I don't even know why it showed up.  I've never tried to print on an evelope.

Hi @Nannaof42U,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The envelope icon on your HP Deskjet printer typically indicates that there's a problem with the printer's input tray, or there might be a paper jam, misfeed, or some other issue with the paper handling mechanism. Even though you haven't tried to print on an envelope, it's possible that the printer detected a problem with the paper feed or tray.

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and clear the error.

  • Check for paper jams: Open the printer cover and check for any stuck paper or debris. Remove any jammed paper carefully. Also, check the paper tray for any misaligned paper.
  • Check paper settings: Make sure that the paper settings on the printer match the paper size and type you're using. Sometimes, if the settings are incorrect, it can cause the printer to display errors.
  • Restart the printer: Turn off the printer, wait for a few minutes, and then turn it back on. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve minor issues.
  • Reset the printer: You can try resetting the printer to its factory default settings. This can often clear out any temporary glitches. Refer to your printer's user manual for instructions on how to reset it.
  • Update printer firmware: Make sure your printer has the latest firmware installed. Sometimes, HP releases firmware updates to address known issues and improve performance.
  • Inspect the input tray: Ensure that the input tray is properly seated and that there are no obstructions preventing it from closing completely.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the envelope icon error on your HP Deskjet printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
