Welcome to HP support community.
Update the printer firmware
Updating the printer firmware might resolve printhead problems. Go to Updating or Upgrading the Printer Firmware for more information.
Reseat the printhead up to three times
-
With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the rear of the printer.
WARNING:
You must disconnect the power cord before reaching inside the printer.
-
Lift the carriage latch, slightly lift the printhead, lower the printhead back into the carriage, wiggle the printhead left and right, and then lower the carriage latch to lock the printhead into place.
-
Close the ink cartridge access door.
-
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
-
Sometimes error messages persist after inserting the printhead. If the error message persists, repeat the steps to reseat the printhead up to three times.
I hope that helps.

Have done a google and found videos with suggestions on how to fix HP8600 Printers with this error message,...
How to fix hp officejet pro 8600 printer failure error Tried this solution but it did not work for me.
How to fix inksystem failure for HP 8600, 8610, 8620, 8630 Print Heads This solution worked, but,.... Error mssg disappeared, but Printer then displayed new error mssg saying Magenta cartridge was damaged. Installed newly purchased Magenta cartridge. Printer says Magenta cartridge is still damaged. Install second newly purchased Magenta cartridge. Printer accepts this Magenta cartridge, but then says Black cartridge is defective. Install newly purchased Black but error mssg persists, Black cartridge is defective.
Decided to undo the How to fix inksystem failure for HP 8600, 8610, 8620, 8630 Print Heads solution, took the tape off & original error mssg reappears, "....problem with the printer or ink system,..."
Appears I am chasing my tail with little forward progress.
